“Finally, I feel whole again…”

The medical consequence after the diagnosis breast cancer often is radical surgery. Even if the surgery is followed by a reconstruction of the breast, the reconstruction of the nipple and the areola is not included most of the times. A breast without a nipple – that’s an uncanny image for most women. And this was how Andy Engel received the first request of a patient in 2008, who wanted a realistic imitation of the nipple to give her body a natural appearance again after a surgical reconstruction of her breast.

Thanks to Andy Engel’s distinctive love for delicate detail – paired with the artistic ability to do realistic and lifelike tattoos – he then tattooed the first reconstructed nipple and areola on this patient. The visible outcome made her so happy that she spontaneously expressed her overwhelming emotions with the words “finally, I feel whole again!”.

Since then, Andy Engel has done many nipple reconstructions at his tattoo studio – of course, always hand-in-hand with informative consultations about the possibilities of nipple reconstructions.
